When Covid-19 emerged in 2020, we were well on our way to planning a clinic in Sheshathshiu for June. The world shut down and the students scheduled to go were not able to have this rotation and experience. In 2021, the University of Prince Edwards Island had developed very strict rules involving covid protocols which unfortunately meant that our clinic could not proceed once again. Finally in 2022, the Chinook project began again, with a trip to Port Hope Simpson, a location we had never visited. (The writing from those 5 students will be posted later this year). In 2023, a team was selected to travel to Sheshathsiu, who had been waiting 3 years for a visit. The community came together to plan for the clinic, and hosted five vet students and three veterinary team leads. We are very grateful to Sheshathshiu and all the volunteers and owners, as well as other supporters of the Chinook Project - such as the Valley Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Becky Jackson. In the next few weeks, we will be posting the writing of the students, who complete a series of reflective creative non-fiction assignments based on their experiences.
